THE ACCIDENT TO THE CHINA.
London. March 25. Lloyd's agent at Perim telegraphs that the P. and O. Company's steamer China, homeward bound from Australia, is ashore at Azalia Point. The China is expected to become a iotal loss. Her passengers, numbering 493, wars landed safely at Perim, together with their | baggage. The vessel's bottom is pierced forward. Lloyd's agent reports that the vessel is full of water, March 27. The China struck on Thursday evening during a thick haze. Her mails and specie were caved. The steamer Carthage, which baa proceeded from Aden, will convey the China's passengers to European ports. Tugs, lighters, and Government steamers have been sent frcm Aden to the assistance of the stranded vessel. . Her foreholds are full of water, but flooding of other portions of the steamer is prevented by the watertight coropattments. There are hopes of saving" the vessel if the weather improves. Sydney, March 26. The' China has 498 bales of wool and about L 12.000 worth of specie. March 28. The local insurance officss will be, considerable eufferersby the wreck of the China, bus I the amounts are widely distributed. I Wellington, March 27. The China, wrecked near Perim,'' had the I following passengers booked from here :— Mr I and Mrs Wall (Wellington), Mrs Moss (French Pass), Miss Lucodr (Wellington), Mr Ncr- ; vanas (late organist of Nelson Caihedral).
