KOKONGA
March 14 — Freedom from the hiab. winds •which have beea blowing for months has made the weather of the last few weeks very pleasaut — in ixct, the most pleasaut v/e have bad this Pum'Tier. It still continues very dry, however, and any hopes now of rain doing the rcot crops ar-y good are gone. The rainfall for the month of JV.biuai'y was 0 43in. liain fell ou seven days, the heaviest fall being o'lsiD, on the Bth. School.— The school committee «held their usual meeting on the 7thinst., when there "were in atten ance Messrs ,Williamson (chairman), Glendinning, Mann, and Gillies. The teacher leportcd that the number of children on the roll for the month of I?obni*ry was 60, while the average attendance was 45. Bunky.— Rabbit-trapping is the order of the day in the district just now, and for some time to come the bunnies will require to be extremely cart ful where they put their feet. There are two ! local agencies for receiving rabbits, and from the numbers that come in every morning it should not be long before the pest is thinned out con- i siderably. I hear that a rabbit-canning factory ■ is in course of erection near the railway bridge, aud will be ready to commence operations shortly. The Governor's Visit.— Our usually quiet little township was roused to the point of positive excitement la&t Wednesday on the occasion of the arrival of his Excellency the Governor and suite en route for Naseby. He was met at the station -y the mayor of Naseby (Mr Guffie) and members or the borough council. After the usual introduc- j tions bis Excellency, accompanied by the mayor, left for Naseby, followed by quite a procession of ] trap 3. Some amusement was caused afterwards by the circulation of a report that his Excellency the Governor had left for Naaeby driviDg his own carriage. It i3to be feared that in their admiration of the coachman some of the onlookers missed the Governor himself.
