' Ninety tons of ore were crushed by the Haura_i Associated Reefs for 2890z bullion valupd at £.60 The Komata Re-fs crushed 330 ti>nß for bulhopi of the value of £1644. The Scandinavian Company crushsd 12 tons for bullion valued at £4.1. THE PERMANGANATE P.' OCE S. I (From Our Own Coiik.espondi.ntj Auckland, M arch 15. The result of the treatment of lewt of ore from the Great Barrier Gold and Silver Company's pro- ' perty by Prufespor Black's permanganate proecis was," so far ?s the extraction of gold is concerned, ascertained yesterday, iakiog four assays of ore before treatment its value wa& about £12 10s per ton. The ore was assayed before and after 1 treatment, with the result that it was ascertained that. 85 per cent, of the g. Id had been extracted, though, owing to the ote not being properly roasted and the filter beds containing iron, tb» 1 total quantity of gold extracted was not saved, , as a portion was precipitated to tha filter beos, , which were subsequently changed for one con'sin1 ing no traces of iron, the latter bfcing got :id or! ! by leaching with a sulphuric acid solution. '1 ; » first assay of the tailings showed-that 17 per csj.t. of gold had been left and 83 extracted, so it >vc--decided to accept the percentage of gold left ;■.- 15 per cent., thus making the extraction 85 p ■ . cent. This, considering the unexpected difficul- | ties that bad to be contended with, is considered j very satisfactory. The silver is now being leached I off l>y a side process that has no connection with the permanganate process (which is inteuded only for the extraction of gold from refractory ores), and the percentage of the extraction of this mineral will be known ia a day or two.
