OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The monthly meeting of tha Otago School Commiasiocers, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maibl*ud (chairman), J. Walker Bain, A. Baldey, J. Green, and W. Dallas. The Ranger of the Leilhen Bush wrota stating that he had eerved a nolice against » trespasser claiming compensation for trespass. — It was resolved to claim £4- 16$ as royalty for timber cab, and £5 for damages. Mr E. P. Burbury, lessee of sections . 32, 33, and 1 of 34-, block XIII, Oamaru, wrote applying for «v extension of his lease for six month? r owing to the failure of bis last crop. — It was resolved to allow an extension of the lease to> April 30, 1899, on condition that the Jand was sown down in grass. Mr J. Templeton wrote offering to take up sections 8 and 9, block IX, Wendouside. — Ifc was decided to inform him that the sections were now open for application afe 2s 6d pec acre. Mr Thomas Henderson applied for a right (p cufe stakes for fencing in the Leithen Bush without paying a royalty. — Ifc was decided to inform tbe applicant that if there was any bu«h on the section be had leased he could cut the same, bufc must pay for stakes and other timber taken from the Leithen Bush at tbe scale fixed by the commissioners. Mr J. L. M'Donald forwarded his mocthly report and enclosed a letter from Mr A. Gray, asking the comoaiseionera to sanction a drainage scheme for straightening the Waikiwi stream, from North road to Mill road.— The commisFioners had no objection to the drainage scheme being carried cut. Mr M'Donald reported that Mr D. J. Btrsa had taken a lease of Hection 1, block XVI, at the upset of 5d per acre. Mr M'Donald also stated that ifc would be neceesary to appoint an auctioneer at the next sale, and the cemmiesioners decided to appoint Mr W. Todd.
