IRRIGATION IN CANTERBURY. Christchurch, March 16.

The committee of the A. and P. Association decided to-day to call a conference of delegates from county councils aad public bodies taking an interest in irrigation, with a view to collecting information, formulating a scheme, and bringing pressure to bear on the Government to assist in the irrigation of the Canterbury plains. The Progressive Liberal Association on Monday passed a resolution to the effect that it would be inequitable to spend public money on irrigation, as the immediate result; would be to enhance the value of land owned by private persons. i
