MODERN EYES.
They tell me that the world is void Of all that's good and true, Thafc modern saints do modern deeds, Unlike they used to do , That old-time deeds and old-time saints, Are passed beyond our ken ; That modern eyes look now on things "Unlike they used to then. The universe is wide and longv And there is room, God knows, 3Tor biggeu hearts and wider deeds Than tho.e svith which, it flows. I stand with heart aud soul bowed down, On bended knees I fall ; I cry out with impotent voice, For oh that voice is small. 0 God and Lord ! Thou'rt God of Gods, And I am only I— One worm amongat ten thousand worms — . Thou Strength of Strengths draw nigh. Command the voiceless ones have voice, Ihe strengthless ones be strong ; Command our crippled hearts expand, Grow high and broad and long. O Height of Heights ! bow down Thine ear And hear my far off-cry, A' c evt Thy wondrous will and say, " Ba still and know 'tis I." What is there else to cling to Christ, With mind, with heart and soul ? If Thou-are not, O God, we ask When, what, and where our goal? —Ada A. R. Ludfoed. Vcllington, March 1898.
