WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS

By P. RoiiPTEa.

March 19. Dfab, Pasquin, — Things Thespian and entertaining are going tLiw with us iust now. The plungeful pUycoui 1 k getting a chance to recuperate and replenish hii exchequer. "The Two Viigabonrs" and Fitzgerald's Circus cleared out list Suuday, and, with the exception of the Parsons Family i'arenell Concert aud a St. Patrick's Day in the evening musicale, we have been empty of amusing. Miss Amy Sherwm nightingraied us la&t night, but that may be con■i.iered instructive as well as entertaining. Certainly madarue regaled a large audience, and she took them to the topmost height of the Opera Honsi with the facility of a giant, and let them and herself down with a trill that thrilled their pedal extrtmities to irre&istible reiteration. The mar. with the Saeeze (to bn) panowski was the energetic curiof-iry of the company, and he, ia common with the other members, was hailed as the* best on airth— until some other— it may bs a dandy coloured — coon comes along I won't M'Adoo about that. After the concert Madame Sherwin was welcomed to Wellington in a reception organised by Messrs Maughan Barnett and Kobn-t Paiker. It was a great Dight, indeed! The Parsons's farewell was a great affair last Tuesday eveniug, and was successful in "mind, bo'iy, acd estate." A weighty purse of SOV3 demonstrated one successful phase. The Bland Holt Company is giving you a revival of " A Sailoi's Knot." It was towards the end of 1593 that the II «lt Company first gave us the play, and a comparison of that cast with the preteut is interesting. Here it is :—: — 1893. ' IS9B. W. E. Baker... Miss Taylor has crossed into Shadowland. Piobert loman we have recently had with us managerially on his own Walter Howe at latest advices rvab in New York out of shop, but had done so well that hs could be »aid to be resting. Brian England is said to have struck su entailed KVudyke in the land of his surname, and if so must be Hvinj? happy ever after. Misses Harrie Ireland and Marie Bruce were also with the '93 company. A series of musical entertainmpnts, in which the principal performer will be Mr Durward Lely, a celebrated tenor, will be included in the public amusements of Welliog'oa next month; Mr Lely, who will arrive by the Moana, has a splendid r.cord, having bean principal tenor of the Savoy and the Carl Eosa opera companies, and for two years Madame A'lelina Path's tenoi in her English and American tours. But Durward L-ily is a Scotchman, and when his voice was iv its prime and his reputation at iti highest he quitted the stage and arranged a aeries of ?onfj aud story recitals, which have not only taken Scottish audiences by storm, but weva received with just as much enthusiasm in S1;.S 1 ;. James's Hall, London, and the Gran I Opera- House, New Turk, -is iv the JCrtuibur^h Music Hall or the City Hall. Glasgow. Mr Lely is accompanied by his wife, an<i his repertoire includes come English and classical programmes. Fitzgerald's Circus has had a rough time of it in. the Wairarapa, what with, the accident to flip-flip HariTHton (who always struck me as bei g a nervous ruler) and the splitting of the tent by nvie B jreas. We Welliugcouians are delighted at the appointment of Mr Alfred (" Hinemoa ") Hill to the condjictowhip of the Sydney Tjisd°rtafel.
