OUR VOLUNTEERS.
A parade of volunteers and cadets in ths South Otago military district was held on the 16th met. The staff comprised Colonel Webb, Major Beal, CaptaiD Milne, and Sergeant-major Towler, and Sergeant-major Will wai also present. Tbe parade state was as follows < — Garrison Band.— l sergeant-major, 16 bandsmen ;— total 17. Dunedin Navals.— 2 lieutenants, 1 sergeantmajor, 3 sergeants, 1 bugler, 43 rank and file ;—; — total, 50. Engineere. — 1 captain, 2 lieutenants, 1 sergeant- . major, 3 sergeants, 1 bugler, 48 rank and file ;— total, 56". I City Guards.— l lieutenant, 1 sergeant-major, 3 j sergeants, 1 bugler, 32 lank and file! ;— total, 38. I North Dunedin Rifles.— l captain. 2 lieu tenants! 1 sergeant-major, 4 sergeants. 1 bugler, 35 rani* and file ;-total, 44. Highland Rifles. — 1 captain, 1 sergeant-major, 4 sergeants, 1 bugler, 31 rank and file ;— total, 38. i .Albany street School Cadets. — 1 captain, 1 lieuj tenant, 12 rank and file :— total. 14. ; Union stieet Schoil Cadets.— l captain, 1 lieu-- ' i tenant, 20 rank and file ;— total, 22. I Georga stieet School Cadets.— l captain. 23 rank and file ;— total, 24. Total ou parade (including staff), 307. After parade tbe membsra qf tbe City Guards were supp'ied with new helmets, manufactured} by Hobton and Co., Londoa. At a meeting of tbe F Battery Artillery (Napisr) on the 16bh inst. the following resolution wan carried :— " That the battery under present circumstances considers it unpatriotic to disband, and will therefore carry on as an infantry company as ordered ; that representa1 tion be made to tbe Defence department that if j a fresh battery of artillery be required ths ■ claim * of F Battery should receive special con- ' sideration."
