Messrs' Murray, Roberts, and Co., in their , wool report for 1897-98, state :—: — j We have again to record a considerable increase j in the quantity of wool (.ffered in the New Zealand j make , compared with previous year's, showing | an increase ot 9000 bales. Condition. — The Canterbuiy wools were coa- ; sidrrably heavier than la-t yen-, owing to the very j dry spring and the abundance of hot north-west winds. As usual, the clips showed thit theie was not sufficient care taken in skirtinsr, particnlulv in the smaller lines. Tbe O a^o and Southland wools were abu t on a par with las; year, again having experienced au exceedingly mild vsiuter, which caused tLe wr.ol to b<: bright and eound. The North Island clip was also fairly l'ght, but a considerable quj.mioy of that offered at auction was bush-atiaiucd.
