Game between Dr BalUid and Mr C. D. Loccck ilayed in the match British v. !St. George Clubs j jondon. i Fai/kbeer. Counter Gambit. j
(a) 3 Kt-K B 3 avoids the complications of the Counter Gambit and makes the game equal. (Jj) Falkbecr's defence, and much stronger than iqx p (c) B j st, and played successfully by Blackburn it Berlin. | (d) P x P seems best. White now gets a bad 1 jjime (c) White's position is deplorable. (/) White has little choice, butl()B-K3, risking ihe los=< of a minor piece, was, to gay the least, no lyorse than the text move. (</)/ Adjudicated a win for Black. Game between Messrs Max J. Meyer and " 2>T." From Brighton Society.
(a) This game illustrates the mistake of skirmishing round and checking with ths queen, sveiy oup of which, checks foicas the other player to a developing move. Had Black been content to go ixiUc with his queen after his fouith move ho might have rome out all right ; but he is tempted by rho check presented at his fifth move, and never recovers from its effect. He gets no time ' for development. The editor of Brighton Society 1 very propeily says: — "The game will well bear , reproduction." j
