Christchurch papers mention that the Kniapot fishermen last Thursday had a phenomenal catch of mullet iv their nets at the mouth of the river, and all the fish were o£ large size. One mau gob in about 100 doz-in. Owing to the large supply the prica came down to 6d a dozen. A London cable states that Dawson, the English billiard player, will play a match of 3.8,000 up with "\Vei3S, the Australasian champion, on* the 28;h inst , Dawson conceding 10,C00 print*. The following crews from the Railway Club (luvercargill) will compete at the championship regatta : — Senior Four* : D. Nickle3B, D. Livingstone, T. W. Pools, and D. A. Mitchell. Maiden and Junior Double Soulls : D. Rodi6 and T. W. Poole. The following crew has been finally settled upon to represent Canterbury in the eight-oared race between that provinces and Otsgo : — Gr. Coop (Little River) bosv, A. Nioholls (Lyttelton) 2, C. E. Bberb (Avon) 3, C. Cnapmaa' (Little River) 4, F. Wheeler (Avon) 5, R. F. Crosbie (V.M.C.A. Club) 6, J. Y. Daly (Canterbury) 7, F. J. Cowlishaw (Canterbury) stroke. A SWIMMING RECORD. Auckland, March 14. G. A. Tyler, who broke tho New Zealand record for lOOjds in the graving dock en Saturday, afterwards established a world's straight-away record for the same distance. In the Ladies' Bracelet Tyler, who was attired in toll swimming castvtme, and had already won two races, wa3 a few inches behind the winner of the race, and the official time for tha race was 79sec. The limit man's start was 13tec, making Tyler's time for the race a little over 68<cc. By a (separate official timekeeper Tvler was timed to have done the distance int G7see, which is a world's record for a straightaway lOOyda. This time is almost equal to Ty'er's bath record, with two turns, of 633-ssec, aud is bebterthan P. Cavill'fl New South Wales record cf 66^sec, in which two turns were made.
