CORRESPONDENCE. The Ranger, Mr J. Sinclair, wro'-a slating thai; the extractor for the water race «,n the Greenvals and Ot^ma runs was cutting and removing timber from the bush, notwithstanding his being warned agaimfc so doing. — It was resolved tfaafc the commissioners' solicitors be instructed to write demanding compensation for timber and for tho trespass wit-hin 14- days from date. Mr T. H. Ibbotson wrote in connection with Me J. M'Kenzte's application for permission to cufc a water race on run 175b that the application to the warden had been adjourned to allow tho applicant to get the Minisuer tor Mines to open the run for mining purposes, and also stating that if it is agaiust the commissionersinterests to have this done the application will i.ot be made to have the run proclaimed, if permission was given to cat a race for a reasonable rent. — Ib was resolved that Mr fll'KetJzie be informed that if he can arrange with the tenant of run 175b, Mr A. Robertson, the commissioners will offer no objection to the race being cut. A memo, was received from the Districb Engineer of the Public Works department giving formal notice of intention to fake 3 roods 23 potes of section 6, block IV, Toi-Tois, for road purpose?. — The secretary w»9 instructed to inform the tenant, Mr Preston, of the notice, and to ask Mr Macdonald to report as to the value of the land proposed to be taken. The Cotnniiusioner of Grown Lands at Invercargill wrote stating that Mr G. Stewart, the leosee of section 5 of 406 a, Hokonui, had applied lo tha Land Board for leave to purchase the freehold of the section, and that tho board approved of the purchase, provided the commissioners recommended the Governor to issue a proclamation authorising fche s*le. — GovernmenlTto be recommended accordingly, WAIBAKI HUN. Ib was reso'ved that the Wallace County Council be informed that the commissioners after making inquiry cannot recognise the necessity for laying off a road line s as proposed, through the Wairaki run. REPORT. Recommendations contained in the monthly report of Mr J. L, Macdonald were dealt with as follows : — That the works proposed to prevent the encroachment of the Mataura River be pub in hand as soon as possible. A report; was received of the sale of runa, &0., at Gore ou the 25th ultimo, and it was recommended that the sections which had not; been taken up should be advertised as open for application. — Agreed to.
An application was forwarded from the Com* missioner of Crown Lands for permission to take a small area of land from the south-west; corner of section 19, block VIII, Invercargill Hundred, and ib was recommended that the application be granted, subject to the consent of tha lessee. — Agreed to. « GENERAL. , An application was received from Messrs B. and T. S. Vail for a renewal of their coalpit; license on the Waikawa Hill for another year.— Granted on the same terms as previously foe one year. Accounts were passed for payment! amount* ing to £89 4s> IDd.
