KURI BUSH.

February 6.— Judging from the ever-increas-ing number of yesuly visitors who come to the Kuri this district will without doubt goon become a seaside resort second to none in the colony, and therefore we venture to think that a few notes regarding the doings and prospects of the place Will prove acceptable.

Chops — With regard to this stereotyped subject we cid only say that what is now needed to make a successful year is le^s wind and more sunshine. Particularly gratifying this jear have been the hay crops, noticeable among which are those of Mr Keast and Mr Quill.

Roads.— We must congiatukte the county council upon the splendid condition of our roads. Their good order has leceived practical demonstration from the large number of cv lists frequenting them.

Whales. — These are apparently very plentiful around New Zealand coasts this summer. Not only have they been observed off our shore, but one has actually been stranded on the beacb. It was of the bottle-nosed species— a huge monster measuring some 20ft or 25ft, and will no doubt be a valuable find for the discoverers.

Picnic. — Our annual school picnic was held tn Mr James Gray's paddock, and turned *ut an immense success. True it is that there %vas some dissatisfaction evinced at the distribution of the funds and prizes, but we cannot for a jioment think that the committee failed to de jheir duty. Messrs J. Dickson and J. Keast as Starters and handicappers for the day carried out »iicir arduous duties in a very efficient manner. 3 he dance held in the fcchoolhouse in the evening lapped the enjoyments of the d&y.

Sensvtional Poisoning Accident.— An accident which might indeed ha\e endtd fatally to.jk place at the fchooihouse some weeks ago. Mrs Dickie (mother of our respected school teichei), her daughter, and a fiiend partook of some tinned libh fi r thtir evening meal, aud an hour afterwards were s-jiz^d with violent vomiting fit.-;. Liv kily bkille I a^si^tance was at hand, and a seiious teimination of the affair wasaveited. 1 be ladies, I am f: 1 id to =ay, aie now better Annual School Elections —These will be upon us a^ain shortly, and judging fiom the energy (md keenness dixpla} ed l^ot jv ar, we l.iay .saiely anticipate a fieice stiuggle on thirf occasif n. 'J he XJresent committee ot four will most likely be returned, and then the inteiest will be centred in the election ot a comuiitteenian to till the fifth place.
