THE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
A meeting of the G-auer.il Coiumitfea oi the Otago Jubilee Jnduiitrial Exhibition waa held iv the Agricultural Hall Board Room on Wednesday, 2uJ, and attended by Hon. Thomas Fergu-j (in the chair), Messrs Thomas Brydone, T. W. Kempthorne, J. H Morrison, K. C*uapb»ll, A. B*rr, J. Cook, William Daw -on, John Raid, John Dubnie, John Moloney, G. M. Thomson, Thomas Brown, John Angus, J. M. Ritchie, John Mill, J*mes H»zlfcti>, Thomaa Young, J. C. Thomson, and Dr Huckeu.
A considerable ami uotof correspondence waa received and referred to various sub-eomßjivtet-a for consideration and reporfc.
Ifc was decided to communicate with tha chairman of the Education Board and ascertain if it would be possible to arrange with the bosrd for the use of their uew premises during the exhibition.
The Photographic Society intend holding their annual exhibition in the buildings, aud agreed to give a number of limelight entertainments during the currency of rhs exhibition. — The committee decided fco award several brot>za exhibition medala and certificates for competition, the judging and hanging of the pictures to be under the supervision of the society.
The Musical Cointxsittee r^porkfcd that satisfactory arrangements had been made with Siguor BoiEoui to organise a spectacular entertainment, and several otbef matters wore in progress. They hoped iv the next few days to submit a programme for ths season.
The Space Committee reported that application for space were coming in freely, and they h-id decided that no spaces should be defiuitdy allotted until the 19 bh iuet. Iv the ixieanUma litho p!an3 of the annexed building had b<sea procured, and the total available sp»ce ascertained.
The Picture and Art Gallery Committee reported that they had decided to hold an act union, and had communicated with the principal arti&ts throughout the colony.
Mr John Reid, interim chairman of the Early Settlers Committee, recommended that a book ba procured iv which the early settlers be respectfully invited to write their names and addresses, tha ship and date of arrival ; and further that another bock be procured and entitled " Ship and Shipmates," where early settlers would be invited to .enter tho names and addresses of surviving shipm&tes, and thus to pleasant reunion amongst old settlers and fellow passenger*. The meeting heartily approved of the suggestion, and decided thafe tne chairman and mensbsts of county councils, and mayors and members of borough councils be respectfully reque*ted to unite ia assisting to gath.ee together during Jubilee tims as many of the seUlers as possible who arrived in Osago and Southland from 1848 to 1860.
Mr J. P. Smith, couvener of Miues Committee, reported that he had b*en promisad sample parcels of ore from tha Preservation liJet goldfields and revet al other mines, and that the proprietors of the Ocean Beach, Ruapuke, and other quarries were new arrataging to prepare blocks showing their building atone in the reugh, dr«s*ißd, and poliphed. He anticipated that the exhibition would be well supported froai the Southiaad district;.
FISHERIES AND ACCLIMATISATION.
A meeting of the Fisheries aud Acclimatisation Court Committee was held at the close of the general meeiing (Kr G. M. Thomson in the chair), when a considerable amount of business was considered and dealt; with. Mr R. Caishclm reported that Messrs Buchau woald exhibit a case of artificial fl c«, a»d that Mr R. Saayth one or two c»sea ot stuffed Native birds. The Chairman placed befora the meeting particulara regarding the proportions and construction of fish tanks, and it was decided that the secretary procure a specimen, as suggested by the chairman.
BAELY SETTLERS' COMMITTEE,
A meeting wa3 held on Thursday of the Eaily Settlers' Committee" in connection with the industrial exhibition. There wera present : Messrs John Reid, Donald Reid, John Dufchle, W. Somerville, T. Moodie, and Dr Hislop. Ib wa3 decided to add the came 3of Messrs Andrew Mercer, Colin Allan, Archibald Barr, H. F. Hardy, Danis Heeuao, A. Ford, Angus M'Diannid, W. Wright, Walter Hislop, Henry Green, T. C. de Lacy, T. Down's, W. H. Pearson, aud George Richardson to the committee. The chairman (Mr John Raid) and sturetary were requested to dr&Efc a circular fov issue to ft large number of early settlers staling
the objects Ihe committee had in view and requesting their assistance and co-operation in gathering as many old identities as possible to Dunedin during the currency of the exhibition.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Education Committee wai held on Thursday, wheu it was resolved to ask the executive to request the Education Board to fit up the educution court. The secretary was instructed also bo write to the president of the Educational Institute, requesting him to nominate two of its members, who should be incorporated with the committee. Ifc was deeded to sek the head masters of the Macandrcw road, St. Claii.% Albany street, Cavcrtham, George street, Übion stieet, High street, Arthur street, Normal, Kensington, Norfch-East Valley, Kdikorai, Morniugbou, aud Forbury schools whether they proposed that their children should take p&rb in the action rougs which it has bean deoided shall form part of ooneert programmes during the exhibition. Ifc was resolved to writa to the Southland Educational Institute asking for its assistance in obtaining exhibits.
