OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTOR -L SOCIETY.
THE WINTER SHOW.
The sub-committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society appointed to revise the schedule and carry out all details in connection with the Oiago A. and P. Society's annual winter show met on Wednesday night, Mr James Shiel (president) in the chair,' The Chairman reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made with the promoters of the Otago Jubilee Industrial Exhibition so as to enable the committee to arrange nil their exhibits without closing the building.
It had also been decided that the exhibition should be closed with the sociaty's show, and that all season tickets issued would be available for admission during the show dates. So that the exhibition should remain intact it was dtcided that in addition to utilising the main hall, the board room and a portion of the gallery should be used for exhibit.*, so that country visitors will have an opportunity of seeing both this winter «h<">w and the exhibition. A considerable amount of corre^pcnrlecce was recei»xd, including suggestions from Messrs J. B. MscEwan, J. T. Lang, and the National Dairy Association, which, after careful conti feration, were practically adopted. The Fchedule was carefully gone over, and several alterations mide, aiid in many of the classes where it was shown there had been gcod competition the prizes were incceased, and a few clashes were deleted from the catalogue. It was decide 1 that an extra cla«s be added in the cheese section for competition from f*ctories whose y«arly output does net exceed 30 tons, and alro an extra class for the besb two boxes of factory butter most suitable for export from the North Inland factories. The secretary was instructed to communicate wicfa Mr J. D. Rif-chie, secretary of the Agricultural department, asking if the department could make arrangements for the storage cf all cheese and butter sent in for competition, so that all exhibitors would be p'aoed on the same position ; and all such exhibits should be in t_e possession or in charge of tho society some two months previous lo the show. It was decided to fix the dates of the show for the Ist to 4th Jute inclusive, and it was sis 3 agreed that a substantial prize be offered for the besfc collection of farm snd dairy produce exbibiced from»ny county. In addition to the usual prze? effired, gold medals are to bs awarded for the largest prize-takers in the sections for grain (opea and farmers' classes), seeds (farmers' and open cUssts), and roots ; and exhibitors iv severd of the classes of cbeeee are to have the opt'on of receiving either a gold medal or c_->h p'iz^ of £3.
