Curious Schoolboy Compositions.
An English r-xchange remarks tbat tbera are many ge>ns in Mr GarreU's collection of schoolboy mistakes, which he has well named " Chips from my Blockhead*." Some of the errors are due to associations of ideas that would ouly occur to schoolboyp. Thus: "Samson killed the Philistines with the ■ pillows" at once suggests the hero of a mighty bolster fight ; while the unconscious humour of the statement that the " descendants of Noah became very humourous" jattifies itself. The mind afc once pictures She m, Ham, aud Japhet makiDg funny remarks about the ark and its curious assortment of passengers. | The schoolboy, again, who asserted that j •' Cycliug makes the road dangerous for Pres- ! byterians " and the other who described Jehu as ■ "one of the mo>t wicked and pious kings of ! Israel " were unconsciously making most pregnant epigrem*. " Tha Wickedness of the Pious " would, indeed, make ftn excellent historical esbay — and ib would be a long one.
