ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A meeting of the council of the Acclimatisation Society, held on the 25th ulfc., was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), R. Chis» holm, J. Roberts, G. M. Marshall, A. Stronacn, J. Edgar, W. S. Pillans, J. Sinclair Thomson, A. C. Begs, S. Goldsmith, R. Forrest, F. Deang, and D. Rassell. The Manager (Mr Deans) reported as follows :—: — There is Httlo to report on this month. I have hawled over to the Southland Acclimatisation Society 10,000 salmon fry and 4000 foatjnalis, aad have still to get ths yearling salmon promised them. As we have some 10.000 or 12,800 salmon fry ia the boxes I would recommend that thty be placed in the pond at present occupied by the yearling salmon, and as there are only a few of the year-old salmon I thick they might be liberated, and the three-year-olds put into the pond occupied by them. The 500 two-year old 3 are in the smolt stage and are anxious to get out to sea, aed have been leaping cut of the pond. The 700 rainbow trout fry have been placed in a small pond • also about 3000 Scotch burn trout fry. This is exclusive ef tbe 10,000 placed in the races recently. The surroundings of the new pond 3 have %eoa top-draped and sown with grass. I bave alas liberated 4000 trout in the vicinity of Clyde and Alexandra, Mr G. Dick kindly taking; charge of the lot for Alexaadra. Yesterday I ran off the pond containing the ysarliug salmon, and found ILOO. Mr Campbell, of the Southland Society, was present, and toak delivery of 740, to be *liberated_ ia the Waiau watershed. The remainder he is to liberate in a far/ days. There were POO 9 fry placed in this pond last year, thus showing a large decrease. — The report was adopted. It; was resolved to recmniend that the shooting sesson be fixed as follows : — Rud deer, fromApcil 1 4o tbs ond of May; fallow dser, March 15 to tho end of April ; native and imported game, Ms.y 1 to July 31. The council's attention having been called to the pollution of tho Water of Leith, tho matter was referred to the exeou'ive with power to act. Mr A. E. Farquhar, of Stirling, was elected a member of the council in the place of Mr Pillaas. I(j wa3 resolved to grant the Stirling Anglers' Society the usual donation of £1 Is towards its funds. A vote of thauk3 was accorded lo Mr Glendining for rearing some young mallard ducks for the Botinic Gardens.
