Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Lyell, January 7.
The following is the report from the United Italy Compxny's mine :— "The conti actors for tbe exte. sion of No. 2 level have driven a further distance and repaired and extended 116 ft. There is n r ) change in the faca of the drive, there still beirg a goo>l, well defined reef track; and "the countiy pas»ed through has been of a very encouraging character." Alpine Extended Gold Mining Company.— The following is the result of the cleaning up at the above company's battery for the month :— 34?oz 2dwt of retorted gold from 330 tons of stone treated. A quantity of the crushing was very coarse g»W, and included in tin above return are 290z f nuggets obtained from the boxes.
