EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.
The visiting delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Educational Institute, the session of which has joafc closed, were entertained en Friday »t a picnic at Wastati. Tie whole of the delegates with tbe exception of one, who was compelled to return to Wellington, and about 30 visitors were present, t£e whole making up a party that crowded two drags and two waggonettes. The w-e*tfeei; w&8 anything but promising when Donedin wa*s left, but it turned out qtrite f&vouenble, and a vary pleasant drive across the hills was experieocbd. At 1.30 p.m. the cdojp«*ny sat dawn at Sar&tog* Hou*e to an excellent dianer provided by Mas Coleoan. The 'visitors subsequently wetet&kaa up the river, a/ couple of hours thus being spent, and all were .delighted with the scentry of the Waitnti. At 4- o'clock afteraooa tea was served in the hotel, and advautage was taken of the opportunity to honour a number of kmsto. That of " The New Zealand Educational latiituta" waa proposed by Mr M. Coh«n and was responded to by Mr R. D. Stewart, of Auckland. Mr O J. Hodge followed with the toaat of " The Visitors," and tlr's was ackuowledgad by Mr W. T. Grandy, of Wellington. Mr C. S. Howard, of Curistchurcb,, proposed *• The Ofcago Educational Ijos'ifute," and Mr J. Qarrow, president of the local bcaueh, replied. The toast" of " The School Inspectors of the Colony " was submitted by Mr J. G. L. Scot*, of Cm-istchurch, and Mv W. S. Fitzgerald, of the Otago inspecting staff, responded. Mr S. B. Holmes, of HawkeY Bay, proposed •• The Ladies," and Mm Wilkinson, of Chrigtchurcb, and Miss SunUy, of Nelson, spoke in ackuowledgment of the toast. Finally, MrW. Davidson, as president of the institute, proposed fcbo health of tha hostess. The return dri*e to town was commenced about 5.30 p»m. and wa3 very enjoyable. Sereral very fine vaisi effects on the Peninsula were witnessed by the party, and the visitors as a body were greatly charmed and impressed with the view.
