SOUTHLAND AGRICULTURAL NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) January 10.

During the past week strong westerly gales ■were experienced, and the crops had much ueed of the rain which fell on Saturday and Sunday nigbts. Tae temperature of the soil was high Bfc the time, *nd crops have an improved appearance already. Tiio oats were beginning to ehoot last week, although tbe Jeßgth in many places ranged only from lOin to 15in. The growth of the turnips has been very irregular, and some farmers have sown seed a second time. There are maDy blanks on the raised drills, but the recent rains will probably fi'l them up. The ryegrasa, which is much later than u-usl in tippniig, will probably not be ready for cutting till next week.
