Hickman, wing commander oS fche ?>l r ,b Bengal Infantry, was killed at Lnadi-Kota! wLile protecting, with the troops uuder liis command, a coavoy proceeding to the foifc. January 6. The death is announced, at Peshawar, of Brigadier-general Biggs, who was recently invalided from the frontier campaign. Deceased figured gallantljf in tha recent action in the north-western straggles, and the hardships which he then underwent, and at the Serah Pass engagement, brought "on dysentery, from which he succumbed. Januery 8. Colonel Bindon Blcod captured the Tanga Pass on bis expedition to punish tbe Bonerwals triba. January 10. The Parsai Pass has been captured. The tribesmen were surprised by British forces.
There were only 10 bankruptcies in Wanganui last year, as against 27 in the previous year.
