January 10. — The Caledonian sports have co^"e lo "be looked upon a3 the sport of the day here, ftnd this year they have more than come up to expectations, for after giving good prize-money and paying for everything, there is a credit balance of over £7. The sports were well attended, aud entries were up- to former- years. The wrestling and high jump attracted moit of the crowd. Mr- Thomas Keith jumped sft 3£in, Mr C. E. Richardson sft 2Jin. This was considered good jumping, and the wrestling was superior to former years ; indeed, the committee of management have to be thanked for the excellent way the severa 1 event" were got off. The quoits, I must not forget to mention, was a rather closely contested bout. Eventually, A. M'Swan cairied off the first prize. The dance in the evening attracted alL the young. folk from far and near, the result being that the hall was crowded beyond the accommodation, and once more tba need of enlarging the hall was demonstrated.
