Sydney, January 1. The imports of the colony for the past year are valued at L 17,192,000, being an increase of 1.521,000 compared with ths previous year. The exports wae L16,78'j,000, gold beiag responsible lor 1.907,000. The export of butter was trebled, while wool showed a large decrease acid frc/so. moat a considerable falling off; otherwise Irade throughout the year shows a steady improvement. The revenue for the balf-y-^ar decreased by L 200.000 compared with the satr!<? psriod of 1896. The income tax decreased by L 138,000, a»d the railways by L 62.000. Mei.bo\ib:s-k, January 1. The revenue for the half-year iaerea&ed by L 145,000 compared with tbe correspowding period of last year. January 3. The exports of frozen mutton last year' decreased by GB,OOO carcases compared with the previous year. Butter increase 1 ! by 767,0001b.
