MANIOTOTO A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL SUMMER SHOW.

(Mount Ida Chronicle )

The summer show of the Maniototo A. and P. - Association, which was htld on the racecourse, Na6eby, on Friday, 17th mat., wa.«, considering ■ the unfavourable nature of the season, distinctly : succesbful. The attendance of the public, the ! ; number of.exhibits, and tho quality of the stock- J shown showed an advance on those of last year. ' The arrangements on the ground were miles ahead of last year's. The following were the judges $p- , pointed :— Draughts " and catlle, Messrs . Joitn. Rhenuan-(Berwick) and W. si.* J Charters (Ury Park, llosgiel) ; swine, Mi"'W. J. J. -Charters ; ' sheep Vb3- doge, Mr J. Smith, jun. (Greenfield, j mamgi.r FArmera' Agency Company). Mr W. i Charters judged thoroughbreds and Mepsrav j Charters and Smith together hackueys, except iiTl j one or two classes wheie the former stood out on ' account of his brother exhibiting. Cattle. —The shoehorn bull of Messrs Ross and , Glendining and the prize Ayrshiie were both good serviceable animals. The show of Ayrsliires, we are told, was better than that at and country fchovr except Bliuskin Draughts.— Brood and dry mares and the two-year-old classes especially good. Hacknejs. — There was scarcely a weedy animal shown.

Sheep. — We shall not be far astray in saying that the display of sheep was on the whole the best of aoy of our country shows this season. It is true the entries in store crofcsbrfids and half- I breds, and in fat merinos and croaebreds j were very disappointing; but, on the other j hand, the fat lambs were, a better lot than ap-"| pearei in Duucdin ; while in purebred stock one j might go far before getting in a country show at once such quality and variety as were displayed in the fine exhioits of merinos from the L'ulcetoi flocks, of Romneys and Cheviots fiom the Blackst'ue and Highfield flocks of Messrs Ross and Glendining, and of Leice3ters of Mr A. Murdoch. { The presence of such stock on the society's ground i giveaadi3tiuctlyhighertonetoitsßh<iws. Cheviots had not previously appeared in the show linga in thiti part of New Zealand, and there was con- ; sequently great interest displayed both, in these and the other purebivds. i
