Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Lyell, December 23.

Alpine Company.— The mine manager reports :— "The extension of No. 10 main level has been carried on during the week and a distance of 10ft has been driven, making the total extension 261 ft. The stone mentioned in last week's report

as having been struck dipped away again down to the floor of the level. A new, splice of stone came in in the hanging wall yesterday, but that also does not appear to rise. The reof in the stope3 remains about the same in size, but tome small patches of very heavy gold have been taken out of No. G stope during the week. The drive north in No. 10 has been extended a distance of 14ft; miking the total distance driven 171 ft. Tha leader referred to last week has cut out, but another makeof stone about 18in in width- has come in in the floor of the drive. It contains gold and does not rise any distance above the floor of tha level. Wo have continued to work the atone ire the intermediate level between No. 7 and No. <JJ and yesterday broke into the old stopea 14ft below tha intei mediate. There still remains a certain, quantity of stone below tho intermediate, and w« ara now engaged taking this out. It is of faic quality. Seventy tons of stone have been sent to the battery for five days, which constitutes the week's work. Tho contractors for the extension of the timber tramway at No. 10 level are meeting with fair success in negotiating a difficult: bluff arouud which the tramway is being carried."
