A CITY PLUNDERED.
14,000 PERSONS KILLED AND^INJURED.
Reports have reached Tacoma, Washington Territory, by steamer from China containing details of the capture of Kuang-yang, in the Hunau province, by a band of rebels forming part of the rebel army now devastating Hunan and Kuang-ti. Tho bandits scaled the walls of Kuarg-yang, with the intention of releasing the prisoners. They razed the prison walle, and released not onlfc, three of their comrades but several hundrecf murderers and thieves imprisoned in the building, and a number of persons arrested for debt. Another band of rebels meanwhile attacked the central portion of the city, and having found the magistrate who sentenced the three rebels, murdered him and his entire family and servants to the number of 32 persons. The entire night was spent in slaying and plundering. All the mandarins and every civil and military officer who could be found were soundly beaten. It is estimated that the killed and injured numbsr over 14,000 persons. The rebels are said to have numbered 15,000. Only half of them were armed. The object of the rebellion and destruction of the town is the overthrow of the present Government in Southern China. The Chinese authorities arc alarmed at the seriousnees of the outbreak, and paralysed at their inability to cope with it.— Dalziel Telegram.
