Tho Clerk presided, and read a letter from the ColDiiial Secretary** CftHoe, Wellington, sating that at the request of tha council tho annual mesiipg had by an Ordor-ia-Council been adj jurned to tho 18bh insb. He tbeu called for nomicaions for the office of chxirmaD, when
Cr Hartston«e moved— "Thab Cr Inbister take the chair for the ensuing year." In doiog so he wished it to be understood that be b»d no fault to fiud with Cr Mu'r, their retiring chairman, but he considered the'o'ffice should baa rolling one. There were others who had been in the council a long time and who wore entitled to the posiiion, amongst them Cr labistor, who he considered would make a good chairman — he did not say a better than Cr Muir, who had given very general satisfaction. He had therefore great pleasure ia moving that Cr Isbister take the chair.
Cr Muir said he had very great pleasure in seconding the motion.
Of Isbistkr proposed that Or Muir should be re-elected chairman. He had got a good grasp of the bueineas, and he did not think a change w.'is at all desirable. Cc Muir had also more lime at bij disposal thau he (pr Isbister) had, and wunld attend to the dutie3 of chairman much better.
C? Hoss had great pleasure in eeconding the amendment. He considered that Or Muir was specially adapted for occupying the position and attending to tha duties. He resided clos3 at hand, and his services wore at all times available, and everything he undertook he carried oub bo the satisfaction of everyone. In the past he had performed the duties of chairman with credit to himself and the council. He htd great pleasure in seconding the amendment, that Cr Muir be re-elected chairmau for the ensuing year. Oq being pub to the vote Cr Muir was declared to be re-elected chairmau.
Cr Muir, in tivkicg the chair, said as it seetntd to be the wish of the council, he did not object to undertake the duties of-chairman for another year, although in consulting his own feelings and convenience in the matter he would have preferred to have seen Cr Isbiater elected chairman. He would to the best of his ability carry oub the dubie3 and business of the council, with the assistance of councillors, as he had done in the pnsb, and he trusted that the same harmony *nd good-feeling would continue to animate the CDunc'l, and that they would work in unity for the benefiS of the county as a whole.
