SOUTHLAND NOTES.
By GotDSPua.
Monte Carlo ia not likely to run again for some time. '
Rangiatea and Intriguer are in , training at Pomahscka. station, near Tapanui.
Narrate ii enjoying a spell at her owner's farm.t haying, I understand, injured her shoulder at the Winton races.
Adam Kiug is looking aftiT St. Patrick, who is au improved hoise since tbe 9th of NoYember.
Dilemma is in commission again, but I am afraid the glory that once surrounded him has departed, never to return.
Loch Ploy is being schooled over hurdles', and is taking to the ijlegitimate game very kindly. His owner also delights in this class of sport. Tot White has the three aiislocratic members of bis atiinK in good nick. Both Prime Warden and Battlefield have iiupioved considerably in appearance since their first e*s>ay this season. Djmigellais to be sent to Palliser.
Both in respect to numbers and quality is the Wyndham Club to be complimented on the entries for the annual meeting. The handicaps should satisfy owners.
Southland has lost two good sportsman in Mr Carr (bre •surer of the Southland Racing Club) and Mr Wm. Collie (a steward of the club), both of whom have taken up their quarters in Dunedin. We can ill afford to lose th« services of such straight-eoing men when so badly wanted.
The only flat racer training on the Southland course is Reuben, so there is little to report by way of track work from this quarter. The Riverton Racing Club contemplates holding a two dayd' meeting next year. This gathering is one of the moat successful reunions of the year. The sport is of the best description as a rule, and the affairs of the club are capably managed.
Mr TenDant has a couple of promising three-year-olds of his own breeding, both of which are in the Trial Stakes, to he run in Qaeenstown early in January. The success of either would be thoroughly appreciated. I fancy Glenelg is the better of the two.
Seventy-three nominations make up tbe list for the first day's racing of the Southland Club's annual meeting,, which is satisfactory. The handicap? appe*r elsewhere, and will be fully dealt with in next issue. A glaring injustice is meted out to Chaos 9 4 in asking hini to concede weight to Maremma 93. What on earth has he ever done to entitle him to the pride of position? His proper place should be 80. ltangiatea is harshly treated, and to ask him to concede Black Pearl 191b and S-nior Wi angler 121b is simply inexplicable. At the Gore meeting Rangiatea carried 8.3 in the six- furlong handicap won by Red Lancdr and Victim 8.10. Now the latter is lowered lib and the former raised 91b. In the Two-mile Trot David, whose winning perfoimance was smin 40sec, has now the full limit (35+ ec). Ault'ce, an unsuccessful maiden in the same race, has to give David lOsec, although unable to score at Tapanui in 6min 16sec with 57sec atarr. The race was won by Mi*s Collins. What sort of handicapping i» this ? Undoubtedly Archie should have been on the limit mark.
