TO CORRESPONDENTS.

W. D. (Maerewhenua).— Mr R. Cottor>, of Waipori, kindly replies to your queiy by stating that the horse Doctor, driven by George Lraugley, who kept the White Horse "Hotel, coveied the distance between Milton and IDunediu (3ti miles) in something under 2hr 30niin. A Correspondent asked some weeks ago when Duntroon died. The quesliou was mislaid, bub I am reminded of it by noticing in the obituary of stallions appearing in the yew volume of the Stud Book that the horse died in December, 1890. Amo.— There_ is nothing to stop the committee from running fi ve men in any one heat. A wellknown athlete informs me that he has run several times one extra in heats of 120 yds where there has been a dead heat, for instance, in a handicap where one and two £jo into the final and there is a dead heat for second place ; or they could run the three men off and take the first and second, if that is their way of placing men. In .Sydney, under the Sheffield rules, where my informant has run in a case of this kind, there are only four made tracks, and where they draw for the men to ran in places the fifth man would have to run his bye and be placed in the final. In this case they would be running on a track the same as the Caledonian ground, which simply mean* putting up an extra rope to run between, the same as our society doe 3in a case of dead heat such as I have referred to.
