SHOOTING COMPETITIONS.

On Saturday afternoon last a friendly rifle match was fired at the Mcsgiel runge between the first teams frora the Dunedin Engineers aud Ihe Bast Taieti Rifles. The conditions were 10 men a-side, seven shots at 200, 500, and 600 yards, and the result was a victory for the Dunedin team, the interest being well maintained throughout. The viiitors were very hospitably'entertained by the^Taieri team, and a peasant afternoon was spent. The following are tHe scores : — •

A ehootiag match between the second teams of the Engineers and the East Taieri Rifles eventuated at Pelichet Bay on Saturday afternoon. The conditions were seven shots and eighters at 200, 300, and 500 yatds, and the result was a v'ctory for the local team. Scores: —

PORTOBEIXO RIFLK CiMB. The Portobello R fle Clnb fired * match with the Permanent Defence Force on the 11th at the Hooper's Inlet r*nge. This was the first tine the club has fired for nine months. The weather wa* everything that could be desired for a day's ouving. Ranges, 300 and 500 yards; 10 shots at each distance ; 10 men a-skle ; any position. The club fired with Kjnoch'a ammunition, which may account for the steadier shooting, the club leading from the start to fioisb. — ending with a majority of 114- points. The visitors were met *t the jetty and taken back again by members of the club, refreshments being provided on the range. The followiDg are the scores :—: — DEFENCE FORCE.
