December 20.— At present the rabbits ara scaice about hero, and by appearancea they are likely to continue so, for tho cats are killing all the young oneß. Weather.— lt has been hay-making weather here this last fortnight— a little more like summer. There have been showers on four of the days— the 6th, 14th, 15th, and 16th. The 16th was the wettest -heavy rain and thunder in the afternoon. There wns frost on the morning of the lOtb The wind has been from E., N., about to S.W. The lowest reading of the thermometer was 50d«g at 7 a.nu on the ltfth,. and the highest 87deg at noon on the 13th, and on the samo day aud hour in the sun the glass registered HOdeg. Banks.— lt is understood that the banks next - year intend to charge parties a guinea, a year for • keeping their running account. If they charge school cimmitteea it will mean 10 per cent and ' over ou the money some.of them receive from th« Education Board. As far as tile Wethorstonea School Cnmmitre-} is concerned, if the bank makes ' the charge the treasurer will have to draw the. ' quarterly allowance they receive from the board (which is mighty small) aud keep it in hand.
