Lyell, Decembsr 17. The following is the mine manager's report for the week from the Alpine Extended Gold Alining Company :—": — " The No. 10 main level has beeu extended south for a distance of )2ft, making the total distance 251 ft. Sjlid stone came in on Monday last en thq banging-wall aide in the bottom of the level. It is from 18in to 2ft iv width, of fair quality, but is rising vjvy slowly, being only sft above the flior of the level afier having been driven on 9ft. 1 here is no improve--nunt ia the hlopes above this level. The north extension of No. 10 1 vel has beeu carried on dining the week, and a distance of 20ft has been driven, making- a total ext nsion of 157ffc. The track of tbe reef has widened out considerably, • and there is a small leaderrucniug along the footwall side of the drive, which cirrits fair gold, bufc is more or less broken.. After breaking into the worked ground in the intermediate level between No». 7 and 6. I was unabl« to find any more of the stone irhich we have beea working, and I therefore opened out to the we.it 1 of the intermediate and south Of the former working* «nd picked up. other stone, which we ai'e now working, the reef bei-ig from 3ft to 4ft in width. On& hundred and thirty tons of atone have bsea sent to the battery during the weak " The contractors for the extension of the timber tramway at No. 1 leveJ started work on Monday l»3t and have made f*ir progress." The f blowing is the report from the United Italy Co uipany's mine: — "At the Eight-mile the contractors for the No. 21evel have driven a further distance of 7ft, makinjt the total distance repaired and extended 100 ft.
