A MUSICAL EDUCATION FOR A CROWN. SHOULD BE IN ALL HOMES WHERE THERE, IS A PIANO OR ORGAN. THE above heading will, of course, appear to most people as the height of absurdity, jet the absurdity is move apparent than real. It goes without saying that a finiched muaical education in the regular courwo osnnot be had fora.crown, or even with several hundred additional crowns^ bub can it be truthfully said that the person with a suffioifent knowledge of music to pl»y accompaniments readily on the piano or organ to all the popular and standard songs of the day has no musical educ«iion ? Assuredly not. A musical education sufficient to enable one to play correctly accompaniments, to the songs snug in the home frequently gets and gives more pleasure from the modest accomplishment than docs the acquirements of many on whose education largo sums have been expended. To the more modest musical education the above heading applies. Such an education the. Otago Witness is now enabled to offer its music-loving readers for a crown, believing that it is the greatest benefit it can give to it» subscribers. This i-eady-made musical education consists oi Pratt's Chart of Cb.oj.-ds for the Piano *nd .Organ, which is the nearest approach to a ready-made knowledge of music .yet attained tby science. It is s short cat -to harmony, apd is to music . what the multiplication table is t.o arithmetic— ; a quick method ef learning to play the .Piano ' .or Organ without a teacher. ', With this chart anyone can with but a small amount of practice become an expert accompanist. It is complete self-instructor, enabling anyone to play without difficulty accompaniments to any song ever written. It is valuable to the advanced musician as well as the beginner, embracing nearly every major and minor ■chord used in music, and is endorsed by teechers and musicians everywhere. This chart is the practical result of years of ■study by Charles B. Pratt, the noted American composer and musician, whose compositions have world-wide popularity »tid a larger sale than those of any other American or European composer. Believing that the educational value of this Chart 18 very great-, the Otago Witness has arranged with tbe publishers to supply Pratt's Chart of Chords to its readers at 5s eaoh, and in addition to the Chart of Chords the publishers have kindly agieed to send without extra charge a copy of the Book of Songs, containing 184songs, with words and music. Many of these BODge are old-time favourites long out of print that can be obtaiued in no other way. Every home that has a piano or organ, especially where there are children, should have Pratt's Chart of Chords. This offer is made for a short time only, and readers should avail themselves of it without delay. Address, with postal notes to value of ss, Publishers Otago Witness, Dunedin. Patents.
