OUR VOLUNTEERS.
Thel annual inspection parade of the volunteers was held on the lit. Lieut. -colonel Webb was in command. Captain Milne acted as adjutant, and Sergeant-majors Towler and Kebblo white were also included in the staff. After the battalion went through various evolutions Colonel Webb made a minute inspection of the arms and accoutrements. The following is the parade state :—: —
Dunedin Garrison Band. — 1 colour-sergeant, 1 sergeant, 16 rank and file ; — total, IS. B Battery, N.Z R.A.— 2 lieutenant", 1 coloursergeants, 3 sergeants, 3 corporals, 31 rank and file;— total, 40. Dunedin Navals.— 2 lieutenants, 4 sergeants, 4 corporals, 58 rank and -file ; — total, 68. Dunedin Engineers.— l captain, 1 lieutenant, 1 colour-sergeant, 5 sergeants, 4 corporals, 53, rank and file ;— total, 65. Dunedin City Guards. — 1 captain, 2 lieutenants, 1 colour-sergeant, 2 sergeants, 3 corporals, 1 bugler 42 rank and file ;— total. 52. North Dunedin Rifles.— l captain, 21ieutenants, 1 colour-iergeant, 4 sergeants, 4 corporals, 1 bugler, 42 rank and file :— total, 55. Highland Rifles. — 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 4 sergeants, 4 corporals, 1 bugler, 35 rank and file ;—; — total, 46. Grand total, 348.
The programme for the twenty-ninth annual prizj firing of the Oiago R.fle Association has now been circulated. It is proposed to hold the meeting on the let, 2nd, and 3rd January, and there ate four matches with aggregate prizes. The Hallenstein Match will be seven shots each at 200 and 300, yards ; the Otago Match 10 shots each at 500 and 600 yards ; the Jubilee Match seven shots each at 300 and 600 yards ; and the President's Match 10 shots each at 500 and . 700 yards. The priza money is £60 independent of the aggregate prizes. Martini-Henry rifl s will ba used, and the association will provide ammunition at cost price. The Colonial Ammunition Company have made a donation of 500 rounds of the best ammunition to the funds of the association.
