Notes from Tuapeka.
(From Our Wethbhstones Corrkspondknt.)
December 6. — The G lden Rise commenced another pa<idock on the 3rd inst. They had iusfc | got their boxes op on November 27, when it came j on, heavy v*in. That evening the cveek broke in lon them and flooded their paddock. All tho elevating castings and the pipc3 were in the paddock. Tt took over two days to pump the I water out, going night and day. .The water' was removed on the inverted syptiou principle : a'jet ■ of water going through pipes draws the water up with it. This saves expense and room, by doing away with a tail race. The principle is only suitable for shallow and not very deep ground. The Phasuix dam was overflowing last week — the first lime this^year. The Local Industry mine ! wilt hava plenty of water now. • It # was reported here that Mr Gascoigne, on b-ihalf of a syndicate, had offered to buy out all the rights and titla of the Industry claim, and hadiproffered them 13.s a, share. I think the offer would have been accepted if the ftory were truey | Mr Gascoigne ha? called for tenders for the cutting of the mammoth water race, to be tendered for in sections of five miles, the tenders to- be in .on the 4th ins*. I have not heard of anyone"'fceiug appointed to show tenderers* tho line of the raee^ , i Thfr Robertson V dredge is steering a course to the westward, dredging across the flat. I think the ground will pay them batter on the west aide. jAt present 'they are working two shifts. I was told that after the New Year they will work the three shifts.
Later. — I hive just heard that a party went out on horseback on the morning of the 4th to' have a look at tbe line where the mammoth race is to be cut, with the, intention of tendering for a section.
