WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS.
By P. Rohpteb.
December 2.
Dear Pasquin,— What d'ye think of affairs with tia now ? Last night we had Bland Holt at the Opera House with "In Sight of St. Paul's"; Probasco's Ciicus was in full going order on the Reclaimed Land ; at the Skating Rink Prof. Norton B. Smith is astonishing the people with his mattery of the wild and untamed steed— avA, all the shows are doing big biz. On Wednesday John Fuller and his Myrio. did a great thing at the Rink, when the horse prof, had to come off for that night. Besides these profesh shows, there were eeveral conceits of local taleut.
I had occasion to write of the superior billing of the Stanley- Paultou Company, but I think the work of "In Sight of St. Paul's" goes one better. The Inman Dramatic Company, at preaeat playing at Nelson, will visit the Wairarapa for a short season next week before proceeding to Christchurch.
I must give you the latest news about the revival of your indefatig*ble circusian Prob»sco, who last week did the Wairarapa for all the siller it was worth, and on Wednesday night reared his canvas head on our Rec. Of the New London Company perhaps Miss Gerty Thornton is winning most favour, her riding being described as of a kind not yet seen in the colonies. Of Miss Ada Wilkinson's performance, pyramidical supports and feats of strength ara the main features. Mons. Elcedo nightly drop 3to the hard ground, a distance of 46ft ; whilst Ted Leonard and Alf. Pearce are said to be particularly clever clowns. For Ingomar, the talking hnric, it is claimed that he adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides, distinguishes colours, tells the correct time by any watch, and answers questions put to him by the audience. Strange to relate, there was an entire absence of the usual circus weather.
Mr John Fuller's myrioramic weekly entertainments have caught on at the Skating Riulc. Captain Jack Sutton has taken his Dimo Museum across the straits to Sleepy Hollow. I hope he'll make the welkin ring worth many dollars, for Jack's no doltrous coon, he ain't ! Mr Wybert Reeve and his cinewhatyecallit are due here next week.
On the Trams.— First Chap: "Say, what's Bland Holt's next piece?" Second ditto : " ' One oftheßesfc.'" F.C :"Goonl It must be good if it's better than England, the Derby, and St. Paul's. What's be call it ? " S. ditto :" ' One of the Bent,' I tell yon." F.C. : " Yes, so you said, — but what's the" title ?" Second ditto ': " Oh, give it a breeze — here, pull the other leg ! "
At tho Wanganui Oddfellows' Hall, where the Puulton-Stanley Company were performing jfiimediately after their i - eeent Wellington season, the gas, says the Herald, was abominable. Feehle at the best, it flickered and jumped in a most exasperating manner, until at last, ashamed as it were of its own imperfectiou, it flickered its>elf I'Uht out. Thus it came about that an up-to-datu Wanganui audience were.treated to the spectacle of a pianist wrestling' with a couple of tallow caudles in his effort to make them maintain a perpendicular position on the top of the piano, while behind the footlights a disgusted actor stood like Aj.ix defying the lightning, firmly grasping a lighted taper in each hand, a flurried gasman the meanwhile doing his be3t to make the meter beh»ve in a becoming manner.
