Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
Lyell. Sep'embar 24. Alpine Extended. — The following is the mine manager's report for the week:—"'! he N". ]0 main level has been extended south a distance of 15ffc. The'total distance completed" is UOfr. 11 The reef has beeu considerably broken during, the 'week. The ground io, however, 'soft in the' hanging wall si <c, and I thiok a new splire of stoffe will make there before much further drh'ing. Oa Wednesday la3t I started to open out on the reef at'the north end of No. 10 leycl, which branched eff into the footwall, and' the distance driven on the saiue it 6ffe. The quality of stone is improv.ing as we drive on it. Another mass of itor.e has come in on the footwall, but at pieseut I am unable to ju 'ge as to its quality-., It cau-ies a small amount of water.' The north wioza at the bottom of No. 9 level has besn sut>k a further depth of sft, making the total depth completed 125 ft. I shall timber up and discontinue sinking hes e, having now reached the required depth to make the connection with No. 10 level. The reef is bet\veen,2ft and 3ft in width, clean and solid,and of fair quality. Eighty tons of stone haye been sent to the battery during the week."
