TECHNICAL EDUCATION. Auckland, September 21.
A special committee appointed by the Edacation Board met to consider and report on the memorial of the Auckland Technical Association as to the necessity of an increased Government grant for technical education. After discussion the following resolutions were adopted :— 11 1. Your committee recommend that education boards should be empowered to take control of technical education upon the condition that the Government provide sufficient funds for the game.
"2. Your committee recommend that the capitation grant named in section 5 of " The Manual and Elementary Instruction Act, 1895, ' 'should ba increased, the present; scale being wholly inadequate. "3. Your committee recognise the value of the continuation school system, and recommend that every encouragement should be given to the same by the State."

Dr James Kilgour, of Parnell, has died, aged 85 years. He arrived in Melbourne in 1839, and at Nelson (New Zsaland) in 1859. After that he went to Picton and Wellington, bub left Wellington in 1869 for the Thames goldfields. In 1890 he practically retired to live at faraeU.
The Wellington City Council has passed a resolution supporting the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce's proposal to objain a training ship for the colony.
A number of leading residents of Masterton, inelading a doctor, a bank manager, and the editor of one of the local papers, have feeen fined in the Magistrate's Court for riding their bicycles on the footpaths.
A preliminary census made by tb.B Egyptian Minister of the interior Indicates that the total population of Egypt is now about nine millions, and therefore probably exceeds that of the period of its greatest ancient prosperity.
