SOUTH CANTERBURY.

September 27. — The dry season ha 3 been broken up a little lately by a fe\Y welcome showers, which have done immense good to the country. Crops are coming on splendidly, and so is the grnssiu most places, though in some parts of the district they could do with more rain. Ihe lambing season is in full swing, and I understand lambs arc turning out very well, and there will be a fairly good percentage this year. The weather ftt present is very favourable for them. Tha Geraldine ploughing match was held on'lhursd&y last, September 23, and was ivery successful, the ploughing being excellent considering the dryness pf the soil.
