The sales opened with a considerable amount ot life, prices ruling about on a par with those of ths previous week, but as they progressed the demand gradually fell off, an-1 towards the close a considerable drop in price-) compared with those at the opening was quite in evidence, owing doubtless to the fact that no demand of any consequence existed for freezers. Lambs.— 3S were penned, the first of the season, all faiily well grown. Although this was only a very small entry tho demand was not by any> mean 3 keen, a few being sent back to their mothers. Best brought 10s to lls ;1, 12s 6d ; others, 4s 6d to 8s 9d.— Donated Heid and Co. yarded 2S, and sold : For Mr Win. M'Kerrow (Hanapden), 12 at 12s 6d to 8s ; Mr Alex. Sutherland (Otakia), 10>at 10s 9d to 8s 9d ; Mr D. Davidson (Saddle Hill), 6 at lls. Pigs.— Sß were penned representing all sort's. A keen demand was experienced for all classes, prices realised being in favour of sellers. Suckers brought 7s to 12s (id ; slip", 13a to 16s 6d ; stores, 19d to 22s 6d ; porkers, 24s 6d to 32s ; light to medium baconers, 37s to 41s ; heavy sorts to 53s. — Donald Reid and Co. yarded 14, and sold : For Mr Win. Shand (Keith Hall), 6 at 53s to 7s ; Mr M. Hughes (Wingatui), 8 at 10s Gd..— Maclean and Co. sold: For Mr James Ough ton (Janefleld), 1 pan nice slips at 16s 6d.— Stronach Bros. ani> Morris sold : For Mr John Keast (Kuri Bush), slips up to 12s. Store Sheep.— The Farmers' Agency Company (Limited) sold by auction and privately during tho week as follows :— 440 crossbred hoegeis at 9* sd, ?54 do at 9s>, 570 do at 8s 9d to 9s, 2f-8 do at 8s 3d, 101 halfbred wethers at 9s, 75 crossbied ewes at 7s to 9:?, 250 do hoggets at 8s to 10s.
Store Cattle. —The Farmers' Agency Company (Limited) sold 75 bullocks in forward condition at a satisfactory pried.
C-jutitry Sales. — Dalqety and Co. (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at Gore Corporation. Yards on Tuesday, the 2l»t, whea they ya>ded IBS') sheep. The total entry comprised about 55frO, the greater portion of which wera crossbred hoggets off turnips. The demand was very slack, and prices showed no improvement on those ruling at the lust sales. Best crossbred hogget* brought from 93 to 9s sd, good 83 to 8s 6d, inferior to medium 63 to 7a 6d, fat crossbred wethers 13s Sd to 14s 3d.
Sheepskins. — A veiy satisfactory demand exists for these at the weekly auction sales. Competition ia keen, .and prices being 1 cached l eaving but little margin for fellmongering locally or export direct. Boat green crossbreds fetch 4? to 4s Sd, extra heavy 4s 7d to 4i Bd, medium 3» 3d to '.U 9d ; best do merino 2s 9d to 3s 3d, medium 23 3d to 2* HA ; best dry crossbred* 3i SM to ss, extra heavy 5s 3d to 5i Gd, medium 2s 6d to 3* bM, pelts and inferior 3d to 2a 3d ; best dry merino 3s to 3s 9d, exira heavy 43 to 4* Id. medium It 6d to 2s 9d, pelts aud inferior 2d to la 3d each.
lla.bbit<-ki(>s — The demand for these at the auction sales continues good, and late rates for good skins are fully maintained. Cablegrams to band on Monday advising a tise of Jd per lb on best skins did not affect prices ruling previously to any appreciable extent. Best winter grejs fetch 12d to 13il, picked does Is IJd to Is 2d, medium 9J to lOJd, autumn 6Jd to SJ-1, summer 3d to 6d, suckers and inferior Id to 2Jd, best black and silver groy Is 2d to Is 4>i, extra prime Is sd, medium to good 8d to Is Id, inferior 4d to 7d per lb.
Hides. — The demand for these has been very lively for some time. Local manufacturer* and shippers purchase very freely, extra heavy fetching 3£d to "Jd, good to bfj>t 2Jd to 3Jd, medium 14d to 2id, infeuor Id to li per lb.
Tallow and Fat. — Nearly all the- business passing is confined to oddments from the country. Best rendered fetched 13* 6'd to 15s, medium lls 6d to 13s, butchers' rough fat, (best mutton caul) U1 fid to 10.i, medium 9s to 9s 6d, inferior 83 to Si 6d per cwt (ex store, net). * , •
Giain.— Wheat : The market is very firm. Buyer/--, however, do not show very grcateagernean to purchase ; at the sime time any prime milling offering is readily taken up at prices more in favour of sellcs. Inferior and fowls' wheat is in good demand, and easily placed. Quotations for prime northern velvet, 4-> 6d to 4s 7d ; medium and fcoutht-rn, 4s 2<l to 4* 5d ; piime red wheat and Tuscan, 4» 4rt to 4s 6d ; medium to good, 4s to 4s 3d ; inferior, 3s 6d to 3* 91 ; broken, 2t 9d to 3s 3d (ex store, s-acks weighed in, ternss). Oats : A very much better feeling pervades the market now, and although prices as yet show but little improvement the tendency is upward, a good many being daily disposed of. The supply of really good and bright sorts is now within a very small compass, and with the present demand a rise in such ia almost inevitable. Meantime we quote : 'Prime milling, 2s Id to 2s 2d ; extra prime, 2» 3d ; best short bright feed, Is lljd to 2a o£aj medium. Is 101 to Is lid ; inferior, Is 8d to -la 9d (»x store, sacks extra, net). Barley : Prints malting is in demand ; medium also can be placed, butstocks being bow confined to inferior quality very little business is now done in this lino. Quotations for prime, 4s to 4s 6 1 ; medium to good, 33 3d to 3* 9d ; inferior, 2i 9d to 3a 4d (ex store, sacks extra, net). Grass Seeds. — The demand for n-egrasa lead is almost entirely confined to smail snotty Bead, coatse grown being difficult to placa at, say, 2j 3d to 2s, 6d ; while small seed is fetching 3a 3d to 3s 9d ; bxtra prime, 4s 3d (t-x store, sacks extra, net). Cocksfoot is moving off slowly, best dressed fetching 5d t-> sid ; medium, 4d to 4Jd per lb (ex store, sacks extra, net). Chaff.— The maiket it again slightly firmer this week, best fetching £3 12s (5d to £3 17s 6d : extra prime, £4 ; inferior to medium, £2 10s to £3 10d ; straw chaff, £1 2s 6d to £1 7s tid per ton (ex truck, sacks extra, neb). Potatoes.— The supply being iv excess of requirements, pricessbow no improvement Best northern D«rwents fetch £i 15s to £2 17s (5-1 ; others, £2 2s 6d to £i 10s per ton (ex atore, sacks weighed in, net).
