TUBERCULOSIS IN CATTLE.
Gisbornb, September 18
Referring to the statement made by Dr Truby King to an interviewer from the Obago Daily Times that from 10 to 20 per cent, of cattle are with tuberculosis, the Herald mentions that there is ia Gisborne a Mr Driller, who claims to have discovered an absolute specific for tbis disease, and from inquiries made there is no reason to doubt his bona fides. Mr Driller sajs that he alighted purely by accident upon a certain drug that he has fouDd, after a number of years' careful experimenting, to be a quick and effectual cure for consumption. It is absolutely fatal to'tuberculo*is germs, is of extremely simple nature, can be administered with safety, and leaves no harmful results, destroying all traces of tnbercl* germ«. The animal affected is restored to perfect health so that flesh and milk thxt hava been diseased become perfectly wholescme. Mr Driller is anxious that his remedy should bo known and tested thoroughly, and if it is fouDd to ba cf value tbat ib be made of practical benefit to mankind. He points out, however, that he has spent years of labour in experimenting and, being a poor man, he thinks he should receive some compensation or reward. He, therefore, keeps the nature of the drug a secrtt. He says be hns laid the matter before the Department of Agriculture, but as experts apparently pooh-pooh the idea, coming from a non-profefsknal man, wto will cot enlighten (hem as to the nature of tbe drug, nothing is being done. The Herald saya ib feels satiafiid that Mr Driller's statements are worthy of investigation, ai;d iv the interests of humanity he should be afforded an opporbuuity of putting hia assertiou lo a practical test to prove or disprove them.
Wellington, September 20
Ia connection with the G'sbome telegram with regard to an alleged tuberculosis cure, the Agricultural department states that on receipt of a communication from Mr Driller it instructed ono of the stock inspectors to interview him, and the infermation gleaned in the interview was forwarded to Wellington, with the result that arrangements have been made that when one of the Government veterinarians visited Gisborne he should make fu'ler inquiries into the matter. One of theße offisials is about to go to Poverty B.*y, and will wait upon Blr Driller.
