Judging by Points. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — As Mr A. M'Farlane gives credit to Mr MacEwan for the initiation of the judging by points, and in your Saturday's isiue " Exhibitor" brings forward Mr A. M 'Kay (who I presume is •' Exhibitor"), kindly let me briefly state the actual facts. At a conference of those interested in dairying matters held in M'Farlane's Hall (Mr Pryde in the chair) during tbo Winter Show Week of 1894, the educational value of such contests was being pointed out by some. A circumstance I failed ''to ace, *S the particular merits of the produce of successful exhibitors could not be followed, much les3 explained by the judge who was present. I then proposed that it be suggested to the committee Oi the A. and P. Society "that experts ba ia future employed as judges, and that points ba used in giving their decisions." "A very practical suggestion," interjected Mr J. R. Scott. A slight discussion ensued, but ultimntelj

I . .was - asked'- to move "in the, direction indicated, when Mr A. M'Kay immediately rose ia hit place and m*ved accordingly. This I seconded, and it was. carried. The motion thus stands in the name of that gentleman, although he bad praotteally nothing to do with it up to that utage ; and as for lit MacEwan, he was in Canada. Doubtless Mr Datbie, as secretary of the society, would receivo the motion on behalf of the committee, and he could probably bear " Exhibitor " out, Mr M'Kay beiDg a member —I am, &c , Jakes Innes, Manager Inchclulha D F.
