WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
(From Ova Own Correspondent.) Wellington, September 10. THE AWARUA SEAT.
In connection with the representation of Awarua in the House of Representatives, the question of whether or not a bankrupt can legally ■ tike his seat is not being allowed to rest here, and I now learn that the opinion of two of the highest legal authorities in England is being taken on the point. It is doubtful whether any action will be taken by the Opposition when the House meets with a view to preventing Mr Ward taking his seat, though pending a caucus one cannot write with certainty on tho point, and even if the Opposition agree not to interfere that may not prevent some other member from taking action. If the question is raised there should, apart altogether from party and personal motives, be a very interesting discussion on the point. It is even suggested that if Mr Ward is allowed to take his serf, proceedings may be initiated in the Supreme Court against him with a view to the recovery of the penalty of £100 per day which a member sitting illegally might be made to pay.
THE HOROWHHNUA CASE,
I have beard on good authority that Sir Walter Buller has not yet heard the last of Horowhenua. The matter is likely to engage the serious attention of the Cabinet within the next week or two, and if the Hon. Minister for Lands does not get his way there will be trouble.
September 13.
The Wairarapa correspondent of the Post writes that tha Rev. J. C.
