The ladies' International Chess Congress.
Miss Field, Miss Gooding, Miss Watson, and Mrs Sidney recei vert each a medal given by Mr Eshwage; MUs Hooke received a music case ; Mrs Forbes-Sharper received a prize given by Sir Lsith, of Glasgow, for the prettiest mate; and Bliss Hertsch and JMiss_ Mullerhartung each a prize for amiability, which is said to have been well deserved ! Scarcely complimentary to the others this. Amiability is " made in Germany." Pretty nearly every oue aeems to have gained a prize, which is doubtless very satisfactory. The Field says :— "Miss Rudge's success was almost a foregone conclusion. Apart from her position as a veteran tournament player, her sound careful style was sure to give her tlie lead and to retain it. From the c/iess player's point of view it is not a sympathetic style."
