Pastoral,— At the clearing sale of the stock of the Manuka Island estate there was a large attendance of buyers, and every clais of sheep found purchasers under keen competition at prices ranging from 8s 6d to 7s. Considering the sheep were all tussock-reared, the prices were very satisfactory. Mr J. W. Wilson, of Balclutha, officiated as auctioneer, and he has under consideration the advisability of holding periodical auction sales at the Hillend Yards.
Agricultural. — Ploughing goes on apace. Some of the farmers hav.e commenced sowing. Mr J. H. Gerken ia sowing on his land. This is quite a new departure, as the upoer part of this district is reputed to be too cold for wheat to ripen properly. The hum of the threshing mill is again heard here, it being at present engaged on Roxburgh station threshing stacks left from harvest time, and also chaff-cutting.
