TURKEY AND GREECE.
THE EVACUATION CONDITIONS. Constantinople, August 9. The Porte bas proposed that the Turkish troops shall evacuate the Greek territory to the' southward of Lariesa within 15 days after the signing of the treaty of peace, on condition that one-third of the amount of the war indemnity lie paid, the remainder of the territory to be evacuated within 45 daya after the full amount of the indemnity has been paid. Germany approves of the Porte's proposal. The other Ambassadors are awaiting instructions from their Governments. August 11. The Porte has informed the Greek Government that it has not sufficient means to withdraw until L 1,000,000, as an instalment of the indemnity, has been received. When this is paid the Turkish troops will retire from Peneius, but Volobe will be retained in order to supply the troops until the evacuation has been completed. Greece has replied to this request that she cannot obtain a foreign loan for the purpose unleis she negotiates direct with the bondholders. August 12. The Sultan has despatched an envoy to India with the object of stirring up strife there. Athens, August 12. Kustia is supporting the contention of Greece that the control of the finances by the Greek bondholders until the payment of the Taakish war indemnity will prove adequate, without international control, as proposed by several of the Powers. London, August 13. Greece has made no attempt to raise an indemnity loaD, and she offers every obstacle to the proposal for international control. The outlook is considered to be exceedingly unsatisfactory.
