Oamaru Town V. Country.
This match took place at the Royal Hotel, Oamaru, on the 13th mst. Messrs J. A. Boreham and S. Crook captained their respective teams. The match was played in conjunction with a tournament for Mr Boreham's trophies, the games played constituting the firat round. The result was as follows :— Town. .Country. Wins. Draws. Wins. 0 S. Bruce 0 Second Class. 1 Webster 1 G. Paterson 0 0 A. Smith 1 Lindsay 0 Messrs Smith and Lindsay have to play a second two games to decide the round. Third Class. 0 W. Moxhini 0 W. Dennison 2 1 S. Holmes 1 W. J. Frew 0 Messrs Holmes and Dennison have yet to play off. Isdale a bye. Fourth Class. 0 Welch 2 Macguire 0 1 M'Jennet 0 J. Dennison 1 F. Harding a bye. So far as concluded in the second round Messrs Moxham, Pateraou, and Frew retire. Messrs Barraclough and Bruce have played one game, the former winning, and unless Biuce can score the second game he also will retire. At the close of the contest the teams sat down to an excellent supper served by Host Cartwright, to which ample justice was dene. The healths of the captains were toasted and responded to, and a pleasant hour was spent in sociability and harmony.
