Mr L. A. Williams. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, July 7. Mr Lloyd A. Williams, Wellington manager for Messrs Sargood, Son, and Ewen, died at his residence this morning. {He had been ailing for seven or eight months, and lately his life was despaired of. He had not been able to attend to business since last Christmas. A visit to Rotorua failed to improve his condition, and about three months ago be was taken to Dunedin in the hope that he might receive some benefit from the more bracing climate of the south. He returned to Wellington three weeks ago feelinfi somewhat better ; but soon after he came^back his health again became very bad. His death was due to an internal complication. Mr Williams, who waß 59 years of age, wan born in England, but was educated in Jersey, where his parents resided during his boyhood. At the close of his school days he went; to London, and entered a large wholesale drapery establishment, where he soon gave evidence of the possession of ability more than the average. About 30 years ago he came out to Dunedin, and soon after his arrival w:\b engaged to manage the Manchester department iv Messrs Sargood, Son, and Ewen's large warehouse in that city, discharging his duties so efficiently that ultimately the firm entrusted him with the important dnty cf establishing a branch of i'd business in Wellington in 1888, and since then he had been in charge of the Wellington warehouse.
