Notes from Tuapeka.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mat 31.— Owing to the Consolidated Gold Company's races being blocked with snow, work was suspended for a day or two last week, and it is expected that it will be the same this week, as the ranges are covered with snow. The dredge lately shifted from Menzionburn to Tuapeka Jflat i 3 being rapidly reconstructed. Already one of the pontoons is finished. The Consolidated Gold Company are at present engaged in " washing up," and from what I cm hear the returns will not be so good as hitherto. On WedneEday morning last M'Lelland's drcHge was found sunk at her moorings on the Clutha River, about a mile above the Beaumont. It had not been worked for about a week owing to the rising of the river, but had been visited by one of the hands on Tuesday af ternoonX He had reported everything as being right, and it is supposed that it must have sprung a leak and gradually filled. The dredge has settled down on a level sandy bottom, and there is only about 2ft of water covering it. When the river has fallen a little more it will te possible to raise it. Meanwhile operations are to be undertaken for the purpose of taking off as much of the machinery as possible.
