ISLA BANK.

May I.— The weather for the season of the year has been favourable so far. There has been little frost yet in this part of the country, and the grass fields are generally doing well. Tht sheep, with careful attention on the part of the shepherds, should consequently be right, but they must be ept up in condition now, or better feed later on may be partly lost. Now is the time to see that ' the sheep are right for the coming season. Many are now giving their sheep some turnip. The late-sown turnips are generally looking well, and are growing fast where the ground is not too lowlyißg and wet. The threshing mills are busy at work, and a great par- of the oats is threshed, and there is heavy traffic on the roads every day drawing it to the station. Angling. — The fishing season is now closed. Mr David Henderson records 379 fish as his catch for the season. School Elections —On Monday the election of the Limestone Plains School Committee resulted as follows :— Messrs David Evans (chairman), James George, William Stewart, James Baird, Donald M'Hardy, Robert John->tone, and William Beozie. Social —On the evening of the 30th ult. a farewell social was tendered in the hall to Mr Jos. Quinn, who is shortly leaving the district for the North Island. As it was a beautiful evening a large crowd gathered to give Mr Quinn * hearty send off. During the evening songs were sung by Messrs Henderson and Turnbull and Misses Gilchrist and M'llwnck, whilst a recitation was capitally given 'by Mr Thompson, of Riverton. Both Mr Quinn aud his wife were deeply moved by the kind words said concerning them and by the enthusiasm with which the toast of the evening was received. The function concluded with a dance, which was kept up until about 3 a m. Mr Perry, of Drummond, did the catering to the satisfaction of all. '
